It’s a fair question — you’re going to be using this surface every day, so it’s worth knowing what’s actually being sprayed onto your tub, tile, sink, or countertop.
What the coating is
Refinishing coatings are commercial-grade epoxy or polyurethane-based systems, specifically formulated to bond to porcelain, fiberglass, cast iron, and similar surfaces. They’re the same category of product used in commercial and industrial refinishing, not a consumer paint.
What happens during application
The coating is sprayed on in a ventilated space, and the area is sealed off from the rest of the home during the process. Odor is strongest during application and while the coating cures, which is why we recommend the space stay closed off and ventilated for the first day.
Is it safe once it’s cured?
Yes. Once fully cured, the surface is inert and safe for normal daily use — showering, bathing, food contact on countertops, and regular cleaning. That’s the same standard used in commercial and healthcare facility refinishing.
“The curing window is really the only time to think about ventilation — after that, it’s just a normal, durable surface.”
What to expect for cure time
- Light use / no water contact: Usually safe after a few hours.
- Full water contact (showers, baths): We recommend waiting 24–48 hours.
- Full cure strength: Reached over the following days, though the surface is fully usable well before that.
What we do to keep it safe
Every technician is trained specifically on the coating system we use, including proper ventilation, mixing, and application. We also mask off surrounding areas so nothing outside the work zone is affected.
